webJobs 2.0 Preview (Part 6 of 10): Create New Pages

August 6, 2007 · 3 comments

Many customers want to make their own custom pages that are already integrated into the webJobs layout. Previously, you had to manually create a PHP and HTML file to do this, but not anymore. We’ve built a feature right into the administrative area where you can simply name the new page you’d like to create and webJobs takes care of creating the files for you.

Under the Customize Pages section you’ll now see a box like this at the top of the page:

Job script create new page

Once added, it’ll show up in your list of pages available for editing.
Job script edit template HTML

You can edit the HTML of the page

Job software edit html
or the PHP code.

Surely to be a very welcome feature – and one to be used time and time again.

What will be the process when upgrading from the ver 1.1 to ver. 2 for those of us already going through the motions of adding new pages now?

Will the software upgrade be doable without taking the actual site or site content down? Losing information already on hand?

The upgrade from 1.1 to 2.0 will be similar to previous upgrades. We’ll make available a list of changed files along with a database update that you’ll need to upload. The custom pages you’ve already made won’t be affected by this new feature. You won’t lose any data in the upgrade, but as always, we do recommend you make backups.
