webDate 4.0 Preview (Part 1 of 5): SEO URLs

December 19, 2007 · 11 comments

We have been actively working on a new version of our webDate dating software, with all of the features coming from customer requests. We’re really excited to be nearly completed and in the final testing phases, and hope that you’ll love the new features! Thanks to everyone that submitted their suggestions.

Now, for the first big change in the software: search engine friendly URLs. We’ve had a lot of customers asking to add this feature to help search engines crawl their sites easier, and index all of the pages including user profiles. Search engines normally have trouble crawling dynamic pages. Normally, in webDate, a URL would look something like: index.php?page=search. Search engines see this as a dynamic page, and ignore parts of the URL. As a result, they do not do a deep crawl of the site. With the search engine friendly URLs feature, the software will rewrite the URLs to look something like: index/page/search instead. This looks like a static URL, and is crawled by search engines much easier.

Getting ranked in search results is tough, but the more content that is indexed the better your chances or ranking higher in the most popular search engines. This is a great feature to help you do that, and we hope you like it!

Hello,
I think you had to work on a better looking for the webdate 4.0.
There are many functions which are looking bad.
Please work a little bit more on the design!

Hi Norbert,

Thanks for your suggestions. That’s one of the things we’re focusing on most in webDate 4.0. More to come in a future post!

Yes, the look of webdate needs a really big update! I’m hoping to see a more of a high end layout. I speaking in regards to the front end interface, not the administration area.

“Yes, the look of webdate needs a really big update! I’m hoping to see a more of a high end layout. I speaking in regards to the front end interface” I will say the same it needs it.
I would like to see where couples could join also not only singles. If a couple does join it would only have one profile for them not two. I Also have people on my site telling me that Webdate is to hard to get around on (it is not user friendly). I.E. they can not find all new members that have joined.

I agree, frontend looks very dated :) definately needs updating all the top sites around at the moment look way more advanced (even if they arent).
Also would like to see instant msging improved, the way it constantly updates the window seems to me to be too basic and puts a lot of people off.

W/r/t new look & feel templates, perhaps WebScribble might consider partnering w/ the likes of templatemonster.com. Perhaps you can even work internally or partner w/ another to create templates our users can purchase to further personalize their pages.

I agree a new look would be great. I am all new to this web building and have been muddling through the templates very confused. Support has been good so far. I have had several create and edit profile issues and not sure it was me that changed the templates. Anyone else having these issues?
A better users guide for basic changing and customizing would be very helpful. I have issues in my administration area also.
