We already some great Search Engine Optimization features in webJobs. Now, we’re making SEO even better for your site and fine-tuning it even more.

When your users search for jobs, they enter search terms and locations which are highly valuable, and were previous underutilized. It was a shame not to leverage this great data to help grow your site in the search engine results. Now, we use this data as part of your SEO strategy to constantly improve your ranking in search engines.

This is done by optimizing the H1 and H2 heading tags in the search results. After site title (which is already optimized), these tags carry by far the most weight for SEO. Let’s say we do a search for “php developer” in Albany, NY. The resulting heading tags look like this:

Notice that the H1 tag has both the search term and job location optimized. This helps increase your site rankings on a local level (near Albany, NY in this case), as well as the search terms.

Now, let’s say we want to search for the same term, but part time jobs instead of full time. The resulting heading would look like this:

In this case, the H1 tag remains the same, but the H2 tag is now optimized for part time job openings.

We apply the same concept to salary ranges. For example, if someone on your site searches for a job between $50,000 and $60,000, we add this data to the search result headings.

Finally, if someone selects a job category in the search, we will optimize for that job category in the H1 heading tag.

We’re confident these improvements will help you even further in ranking your site at the top of the search engine results. We look forward to launching this new feature so you can get that extra boost for your website!

This feature will be released in webJobs 4.3, due out in February 2012.

We’ve totally revamped the Job Agent feature previously available in webJobs. Packed with some great new features, we’ve renamed this feature to “Jobs by Email” to make it easier for your users to identify its exact functionality.

Unlike previous versions, anyone can sign up for job email alerts, even if they’re not a member of the site. This is a great feature for those people who don’t want to take the time to register, but are still interested in the jobs. They’ll constantly receive new job alerts by email, building your company brand, and increasing the likelihood that they’ll eventually apply for a job that they found interesting from one of the alerts. If they register as a user, these alerts will be automatically preloaded into their account, so they don’t have to recreate them.

The way people create email alerts has also been totally revamped. No more going to a separate screen and selecting criteria. Now, we’ve fully integrated it with the site search. Whenever visitors perform a search, they’ll clearly see a simple form at the top of the page that allows them to enter their email address and sign up for the alert.

Members can also manage their jobs by email through an incredibly well thought out and easy to use interface.

They’ll clearly see each alert, what the alert does, and the frequency at which they would like to receive emails (daily, weekly, etc).

We hope this is a feature that your current members love, and that will bring new candidates coming back to your site on a regular basis!

This feature will be released in webJobs 4.3, due out in February 2012.

SEO landing pages

We’re also looking to give you every possible advantage when getting pages ranked on Google. In version 4.2, our search engine optimization features are taking yet another step forward with landing pages. Now, each job category and location page will have a friendly URL that can help those pages rank better in Google. Here are a couple of examples of what it looks like:

  • If someone browses by job category instead of getting a long unfriendly URL with PHP variables, they’ll get a URL like this:

    http://www.yoursite.com/jobtype/automotive

  • You’ll have search engine friendly landing pages for jobs in specific location as well. Here’s an example:

    http://www.yoursite.com/united-states/south-carolina

SMTP support

This has been asked by customer in the past and is now possible! If you don’t want system e-mails sent through the standard server configuration (using PHP’s mail() function for you techs out there), you can now use any existing mail account with SMTP.

Localize your site to a single country

Some customers only want to target US or UK users and don’t even want to give the option to search for jobs in other countries. Now that’s easily possible with a single setting in the administrative area. You can choose which country to run the site in and the country dropdown will be hidden site-wide.

Most job boards charge for posting jobs for a certain period of time, or for viewing a specific number of resumes. However, some sites would like to offer a slightly less traditional system where they charge a monthly subscription fee for the sites.

We now offer subscription based billing in webJobs 4.2. You can offer employers a flat subscription fee each month, each quarter, each year, or any period of time. A subscription grants employers the ability to post unlimited number of jobs and view an unlimited number of resumes. Similarly, we also offer the ability for you to charge job seekers for access to the site. This allows you to charge job seekers for access to the site each month, similar to how TheLadders works.

Proprietary file formats like PDF and Microsoft Word  have been tough to work with in the past, so resume keyword searching in webJobs has been limited to searching just profile fields. Now, we’re very excited to announce that the resume contents of text, PDF, and Microsoft Word (.docx files) are fully keyword searchable. This means the webJobs search engine will search through profile fields completed by the job seeker and the contents of the resumes themselves, yielding employer more results!

The entire resume search interface has also been revamped. It now closely resembles our new job search interface and allows employers to refine searches on the fly. Here’s what it looks like:

As you can see, employer will now be able to browse for more specific resumes based on the search results of their original query. webJobs will show them how many resumes match their criteria within specific search refinement options.

We’re happy to announce two new payment gateway integrations to be included in webJobs Pro. In additional to the half dozen gateways webJobs can already charge customers through, we have added two new ones: AlertPay and eWay (very popular among our Australian customers). The gateway integrations work seamlessly just like our other ones, and user accounts are automatically credited after they purchase.

Employers can receive hundreds of resumes for each job position they post. Often times, candidates apply even if they do not have the qualifications, in the off chance that they will be selected. This makes it difficult and time consuming to weed through each submission individually.

To help with this problem, we are introducing screening questionnaires, which can be used by employers. Screeners allow employers to create an unlimited number of questions that candidates must answer before their application is submitted. Questions can be multiple choice, yes/no, a dropdown, or a free text area. We’ve made the interface simple and easy to use, and employers can create a template screener if they plan to reuse the same one for future job postings.

In addition to the ability to create questions, employers can also assign correct answers to each question, along with a score. Here’s how it works. Let’s say an employer requires security clearance for the position they need to fill. They create a question called “Do you have proper security clearance?” with the correct answer being “Yes”. They assign a passing score to “Yes”, and a failing score to “No”. Now, when a candidate applies he will be asked this question. If they answer “No”, his application will be submitted and marked as “Rejected” in our Applicant Tracking System(in case employers want to go through rejected applicants later on). If they answer “Yes”, their application will be submitted as usual. The pass/fail is purely optional, and employers can ask questions and accept applicants regardless of their answers, in case they want to screen manually afterwards.

This new feature will add value to your job board by providing a service which many job boards don’t have. It will save your employers time and manpower in filtering through all of their applications. We hope you like it!

This feature will be released in webJobs 4.2, due out in December 2011 or January 2012.

We all make spelling mistakes when performing searches. Search engines such as Google have been sophisticated in catching our mistakes, and suggesting the correct term we were looking for originally. So why not offer the same convenience for your job board? Now, you can!

We are glad to introduce a spell correction feature, which suggests what term the user may have meant if we catch a spelling mistake. If a user types a word that returns no results in the database and we can’t find the word in our dictionary database, we suggest a different term they might’ve meant.

We hope that you like this new feature that adds to all of the bells and whistles webJobs already has.

This feature will be released in webJobs 4.2, due out in December 2011 or January 2012.
