Navigating Category Management

Category Management is divided into three sections: navigation bar, categories list, and custom fields list.

Navigation bar
cat_nav
Categories list
cat_cats
Custom fields list
cat_fields

The navigation bar is a set of five icons located at the top of the page. The function of each navigation icon is described below.

icon_cat_up
Brings you to the "parent" of the current category. Using our previous automobiles example, if you were in the Coupes section and clicked the Up icon you would be taken to the Cars category.
icon_cat_new
Brings you to a page where you can create a new category. See the "Creating" section below for more details.
icon_cat_delete
Disables the category and all subcategories. More information in the "Disabling/Enabling" section below.
icon_cat_enable
Enables the category and all subcategories. More information in the "Disabling/Enabling" section below.
icon_cat_custom
Brings you to a page where you can create a custom field, specific to this category. See the "Fields" section of this user manual below for more information.

A list of categories appears in a table below the navigation icons. To the left of each category is a checkbox. The checkboxes are used to select multiple categories and perform the same action on each selected category and its subcategories. Multiple categories can be moved, disabled, and enabled by selecting the corresponding checkboxes.

There is an icon to the right of every checkbox. If a field is enabled the icon icon_cat_folder appears. If a field is disabled the icon_cat_folder_inactive icon appears.

The title of the category is listed next to the icons. If the text is italicized it means the category is disabled. Otherwise, the field is enabled. To see the subcategories for a particular category, simply click this title link and the subcategories will be listed. The custom fields for a category can also be viewed by click on the title link. The custom fields will appear under the Custom Fields section.

The Custom Fields section shows the fields that are specific to the particular category that you are viewing. The fields can be moved up, move down, edited, or disabled using the corresponding icons. Custom fields are covered in a subsequent chapter.

The name of the custom field is shown under the Name column. If the field is a checkbox or dropdown, the name is linked to the input management page that handles the values for that field. Input and textboxes do not have links since both of these fields are entered in by the user and do not have administrator-defined values.
